Tertiary Security Solution
Universities, with their potentially very large number of cardholders, and numerous buildings, facilities and separate campuses, present one of the most demanding system environments encountered in the access control industry.
Through experience predominantly in the Australia tertiary sector, Gallagher Security Management Systems has built up an understanding of the nature of facilities management in universities. This includes the functionality and features that can extend a university’s access control system into a core facilities management tool.
Cardax FT has been designed from the outset with the architecture, capacity and processing power to cope with the heavy-duty demands inherent in a university environment.
For a University, the cardholder database can be huge. Linking of the central cardholder database to enrolment details / academic records is important, to manage large student databases. This can be configured for real-time updating, minimising delays in activating a card. It is also possible to set up each student card record with access criteria, based on the specific university course being undertaken.
Integration with resource booking systems based on timetables for all courses provides the ability to reflect changes in the access and security system, based on specific dates and times that each of the lecture theatres are booked, and to amend the schedule as required. These real time updates mean the system provides:
- a single point of entry for resource booking and access schedules
- increased protection for high value assets via increased security for rooms/lecture theatres during unattended times
- energy savings by ensuring that lighting and air conditioning only operate during time tabled course times.
